232 Engine 2

In
1987, our fire company officers recognized the need to replace outdated and
aging apparatus. There was an increasing demand for integrating
advanced rescue and hazardous materials response into the fire service. The
cost of maintaining and replacing new equipment was staggering. We found
ourselves in need of replacing a 1970 Mack CF Pumper and a 1978 Swab Light
Rescue that was extremely overloaded. It would have cost over a half million
dollars to replace both units. We decided to combine the units into one Rescue-Pumper
with Hazardous Materials mitigation capabilities. We went to work with our
in-house truck committee and Saulsbury Fire Equipment to design this unique
apparatus. We combined the truck design experience of Rob Richardson and the
foam system experience of Jim Nee with the combined efforts of the rest of the
committee to begin hammering out the concept. The committee settled on a 1989
Spartan Command 10-man cab and chassis, 1500 GPM Hale Pump, Feecon Automatic
Balanced Pressure Foam System, 600 gallon water tank and a 160 gallon foam
concentrate tank for Class B foam. The design called for rescue depth
compartmentation while retaining a pumper style configuration and would cost
$318.000.00 to complete.

Its around the pump proportioned foam system allows foam to be distributed at varying percentages to various hand lines, master streams, and large appliances. It carries 1500' of 5" supply line and has a full compliment of hand lines as well as a roof mounted portable deck gun. It has a heavy rescue capability with a complete Hurst Rescue System with 3 pre-connected 100' hydraulic reels for multiple tool use. The reels are powered by an on-board electric power unit and each reel has a pre-connected tool. A 32B Spreader, an O-Cutter, and 1 of 3 Rams that are stored on board. It carries a complete set of Hurst Air Bags, Air Shores, rappelling gear, backboards, stokes, and many other rescue tools and devices. Rescue 232 is also equipped for confined space rescue with (4) Draeger SABA units and (6) 1 hour cylinders. It carries meters, tubes, a leak kit, haz-mat gear, a 12' tripod, (2) 16" explosion proof fans, and a confined space ventilation fan and tube system. An onboard 12K Onan diesel generator provides power and light for the rig and its equipment..
